Welcome to a new collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40. We desire for all of usthe grandmothers, the professionals, the retirees, the volunteers the fabulous women over 50 to look and feel our best each and every day. After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning. But, we both know just how transformative style can be and we hope to encourage you with specific, step-by-step guidelines right here every Sunday. We would like to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence!
Each Sunday, we will bring to you a scenario we face each week and show you our step-by-step process as we decide what to wearyou will see on our individual blogs how we handle the challenge and seek our personal sweet spot for the day!
Hi everyone, I am so excited to be back. I love it when Jennifer and I meet with you to discuss fun style for specific events. I also love thrift shopping! Most of you know how much I support our local Goodwills in San Antonio...but I am game anytime for an estate sale, yard sale, consignment shop...so many treasures await! It is by far my favorite hobby!
I am going to show you a couple of ideas and explain the reason behind each...but both were done with this pair of beautiful booties sent to me last year from ANTELOPE FOOTWEAR...this is a great look and they have stayed in wonderful shape. When on the thrift hunt, you want comfortable, reliable shoes. Your feet will be working!
My Old Thinking...When I started to thrift shop over 25 years ago, I would think it was good if I went in "under the radar" and looked like I just rolled out of bed.
New Thinking....Taking some time to put myself together works in my favor with sellers and does garner respect. I don't actually "dress up." I just dress with thought, and I have definitely noticed a difference since I began to do this.
Outfit #1...Dark denim INC SKINNY JEANS FROM MACYS.; Cream Colored Blouse from CHICO'S; and The sweater vest is a wonderful piece I received from LAFAYETTE 148 a couple of years ago. I like an outfit like this so I can be hands free!
With pockets like these, I can put my needed money and cell phone right by me and have the hands I need to properly inspect merchandise.
Outfit #2...Let's face it, thrift shopping can be a dirty business! This denim shirt is one I do not worry about if I come home with a big brown stripe on it...and denim shirts are always great for the wardrobe. This shopping bag is resilient...water resistant fabric! Sometimes just a simple infinity scarf will bump up an outfit, so feel in charge when going out!
It's worth it...you just never know what you will find...such a fun activity! Of course, we are not dressing for the runway here...just to communicate strength, intelligence and confidence!
